As of November 2010, the overall current rate of electronic health care billing transactions was 43%. The rates of individual electronic transactions were:
1. Claim Submission (75%)
2. Eligibility Verification (40%)
3. Claim Status Inquiries (40%)
4. Claim Payment (10%)
5. Claim Remittance (26%)
Surprised? I believe that some practical limitations exist for claim submission and feel that the eligibility verification and claim status inquiries are on a steadily increasing trend.
Still a lot of work left to connect stakeholders in the health care financing space and to realize the original financial efficiency goals envisioned by HIPAA transaction standards.
